Frequently Asked Adventure Questions

Montana has so much to offer. This is why we made it our goal to show as many willing individuals as possible what this beautiful state has to offer! From the mountains, to remote creeks & streams, to horseback riding the scenic trails!

What do these "Adventures" entail? Horseback riding? Rafting? Hiking?

These trips are all about soaking up the best of our slice of Montana, without the hunting focus – think custom backcountry adventures tailored specifically to your group. Horseback riding is typically the main way we get around; it lets us access some truly stunning and remote country comfortably. Once we're in prime areas, we do plenty of exploring – which definitely includes hiking if your group is up for it! Days often involve finding incredible scenic viewpoints, checking out high mountain lakes, and keeping our eyes peeled for wildlife. The focus is really on immersing you in the mountains. We design these trips for families, photographers, corporate retreats, or anyone just wanting a genuine wilderness escape. We'll work with you on a custom plan, and these adventures run for a minimum of three days.

What gear is needed or recommended?

We've got the main camp comforts covered for you. You can expect sturdy wall tents, comfortable cots, sleeping pads, and warm sleeping bags. We also handle all the meals, so no need to worry about camp cooking! Your main job is packing your personal clothing and items. Think layers – base layers, fleece or a puffy jacket, and definitely good rain gear (jacket and pants are smart). You'll want comfortable but sturdy hiking boots or trail shoes you've worn before, a small daypack for carrying water, snacks, and extra layers on rides or hikes, plus your own toiletries, any medications, sunglasses, and sunscreen. A camera is always a good idea! As for alcohol, you're welcome to bring your own, but please keep it reasonable – about one bottle of your preferred type per person works well for enjoying evenings in camp. We'll send a more detailed suggested packing list when you book.

How long are the Adventure Trips?

Our baseline for these trips includes three full days really enjoying the backcountry – riding, exploring, scenic viewing, whatever activities we've tailored for you. To manage the travel into and out of our mountain camps properly, we also include a day on the front end for getting in and settled, and a day on the back end for heading out. So, you're looking at a minimum trip length of five days total. That being said, these are fully customizable, and adding extra days always lets you see and do more. We can design a trip duration that works best for your group.

What areas/locations will we be adventuring in Montana?

Our Adventure Trips explore the heart of some spectacular Montana country: the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest and the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. These are vast, wild landscapes covering millions of acres – think rugged mountain ranges like the Pintlers and Elkhorns, beautiful river valleys, high alpine lakes, and wide-open meadows perfect for soaking in the views. It's fantastic terrain for scenic horseback riding, hiking (parts of the Continental Divide Trail even pass through!), wildlife viewing, photography, or simply exploring quiet corners away from the crowds. We operate under permit here and know these mountains intimately, allowing us to guide you to some truly special places for an unforgettable Montana wilderness experience.

What Our Value Clients have to Say

Lee Lambert

I had the pleasure of meeting Erik at the 2024 Elk camp out of Deer Lodge. Erik was part of Mike

Smith's crew with Bartlett Creek Outfitters. I got to know Erik during my 5 days in camp and even

though I didn't punch my tag I had a chance but that's another story. Erik is a middle east combat vet,

cowboy, outdoorsman and most of all a proud father. He is great with the horses and has a lot of

experience and knowledge hunting, trapping and anything outdoors. The other client I was partnered

with tagged a 5x5 and Erik was there to do the heavy lifting. Erik also does taxidermy and has various

mounts at different businesses around the state. He is super easy to get along with and very helpful

with whatever you need. I'm signed up for the 2025 hunt and I can't wait to get back to camp for

another week of good times and making memories..
